This project transforms a Victorian home of early 1900s character into a more spacious, welcoming and beautifully connected family house. Set within a street of red brick period properties, the design honours the heritage of the building while introducing refined contemporary elements that lift the experience of everyday living.
A two storey rear extension allows the ground floor to open into a generous kitchen, dining and living space that looks out across the long garden. The new staircase creates a more inviting entrance, and the reconfiguration of the ground floor brings a clearer, more intuitive flow to the home. A single storey side extension provides a practical boot room and a discreet secondary entrance positioned away from the street.
Upstairs, the layout has been carefully reorganised. A family bathroom now sits at the front of the house, while the rear bedrooms extend into the new addition to enjoy improved views and the comfort of en suite and dressing room spaces.
The garden becomes an integral part of the design. A tiered terrace creates a gentle transition from inside to outside, and two quiet outbuildings sit at the far end of the plot. Designed as a home gym and a reading and study space, they nestle into the landscape with slim framed openings and sedum roofs that soften their presence and support biodiversity.
At the front of the property, a widened driveway entrance and new pedestrian gate create a more elegant arrival. Traditional materials remain prominent on the front and side elevations, reflecting the home’s Victorian roots, while the rear introduces slender steel framed openings and refined brickwork for a contemporary, tailored finish.
