Hampshire House

There is a misconception that only small houses need to be remodelled, but Hampshire House is proof that large houses often have layouts that don’t work.

Over time this house has evolved, originally built as three cottages it has been brought together and extended to create its current single dwelling. In recent years the dwelling has been a little neglected, and now looks a little somber and unsightly with painted white brick exterior and white uPVC window frames. The owners, a young family of five, want to repair, upgrade an extend the home, annex and landscape in a phase approach, so it can create a comfortable house that support their lifestyle and growing needs.

A substantial double height extension to the north and south elevation will add balance to the home, creating an enclosed inner courtyard and the internal space needed for the family to thrive. To soften the home into the landscape a subtle colour palette will be adopted, with timber cladding to break up the mass.
